Buffalo Bayou Park Cistern

This place is formerly a drinking water reservoir that was built back in 1926 for the city of Houston. And because it was one of the city’s first underground reservoir, it supported the municipal water system’s goals of fire suppression and drinking water storage.
However after decades of being operated, there was an irreparable leak that was found and the reservoir was decommissioned in 2007.
However it was saved from being destroyed as the people of Buffalo Bayou Park wanted to restore it and make it an attraction for people to visit. It has now become a work of art, often playing host to a series of art and light installations and guided meditations.
Although you do need a reservation to come visit this location, it is totally worth it to see something truly unique and amazing.

Miller Outdoor Theater
Who doesn’t like free shows? How about one that is outdoors?
One of the best places to go for a free concert or show is at a place called Miller Outdoor Theater. This place is located inside the gigantic Hermann Park and makes for a great way to spend the day.

This is where you can literally learn about all things space and see exactly how astronauts do their daily tasks when they are floating around above Earth.
For instance when you come here, you can see exhibits that’ll teach you about what it’s like to be a real life astronaut. You can also see some cool things like the real suits that are worn by these astronauts as well as even touch a real moon rock. And depending on what day you go, you could even meet some real live astronauts which is just amazing.

Upon first glance of the San Jacinto Monument, you might think it looks awfully familiar to another popular monument.

The san Jacinto Monument is actually one of the most popular attractions for people to see here in the city of Houston.
It’s actually really interesting because the San Jacinto Monument is the tallest stone column memorial structure in the entire world. The entire monument stands at about 570 feet high into the air and topped with a 34 foot, 220 ton star.
This monument was built to commemorate the legendary Battle of San Jacinto, which is the decisive battle of the Texas Revolution. There is even a museum here where you can learn all about the history of Texas which includes the legendary battle of San Jacinto.
Admission is free to view this monument and it will leave you star struck by how amazing this structure really is. But if you want to visit the observation levels, you’ll have to pay $4 dollars for adults and $3 dollars for kids.

When you first look at this sculpture, you might think it looks extremely familiar to another sculpture.
And that’s because it does!
This sculpture in Houston is actually the twin brother/sister of the famous “Bean” sculpture in Chicago.
This sculpture was originally built in England back in 2006, and has since been moved to Houston where it will stay permanently. It was created by the same creator who designed the bean “Anish Kapoor”.
It weighs about 21,000 pounds which is extremely heavy and can be found installed at the Glassell School of Art.
Ever since it was built, people from all over love to come to its location to take some amazing pictures. As well as compare it with the Chicago “Bean” version to see which one is better.
But overall, it is a great sculpture to see and one that will keep drawing attention for years to come.

This place is literally a work of art.

The entire building costs about $7 million dollars to build and the temple materials were carved out of Italian Marble and Turkish Limestone by over 3,000 craftsman in various parts of India. The pieces were then shipped to Houston and has since been used to build what is now known as the BAPS Shri Swaminarayan Mandir.
Spreading across 22 acres, it is the largest Mandir of its kind in the entire state of Texas.
Although it is a Hindu place of worship, you don’t have to be the same religion to come here and explore. It is open to people from all over and allows you to see how people pray to the Hindu religion.
Plus there is even a cafeteria located inside, so if you are hungry then you can also grab a bite to eat.
