However, moving to Houston can be quite challenging especially if you are coming from out of town. After all, Houston is very big consisting of many different neighborhoods spread around the city. Which means finding some place to live where you are going to be spending most of your time is crucial.
Now obviously not all neighborhoods are created equal. With some being more expensive than others. But finding the right neighborhood can take time as well as lots of research being done.

Best Neighborhoods In Houston

However i’m sure all of you reading this who are planning on moving to Houston, obviously want to move into one of the better neighborhoods.
With that being said, we have made a list of some of the best neighborhoods for you to move to.
Best Houston Neighborhoods Inside The Loop
If you don’t know what the loop is, it is basically the 610 highway which creates a circular loop within Houston. Inside the loop holds some of the most densely populated areas of Houston. It is also where most of the entertainment is as well as most of the sporting events, new restaurants, city parks and theaters are located here.
The Heights – The heights is home to eclectic wine bars pubs and breweries. It is a historic neighborhood that date back to the 1800’s but has since transformed to a diverse place in which many Houstonians call home.
West University – West University which is also called “West U” is a quiet and family friendly neighborhood located inside the loop just west of Rice University.
River Oaks/Upper Kirby – This area is where you can find some of Houston’s most high-end neighborhoods inside the loop. You’ll be able to find many mansions as well as very large homes. It is also where you’ll be paying some of the highest rent in this exclusive area.
Montrose – Considered to be the heart of Houston. This is where all the bars and clubs are as well as many entertainment areas which are located all around here.
East Downtown – What used to be a quiet neighborhood is starting to transform and change into a very urban area. This area is constantly changing and being revitalized with the times.
Best Houston Neighborhoods Outside The Loop
Sometimes people don’t want to live in the loop. They want to be somewhere more residential and quiet. If that sounds like you, then you may be interested in some of these neighborhoods.
Galleria – The Galleria area is where you can find some of the most popular businesses and retail stores. It is a bustling neighborhood filled with offices, posh boutiques, restaurants and upscale homes.
Memorial – Memorial is home to some of the most expensive neighborhoods in the city of Houston. Mainly because of its desirable real estate, good schools, and great companies nearby.
Energy Corridor – Energy Corridor is a thriving residential neighborhood that is filled with a bustling commercial and business industry.
Royal Oaks – Located just outside the Beltway, Royal Oaks Country Club is one of the most exclusive gated subdivisions in western Houston.
Best Houston Suburbs
Now that we have talked about the best neighborhoods Houston has to offer, you might be interested in the suburbs as well.
After all, there are quite a few around Houston, so finding out which ones is best for you might be a good idea.
The Woodlands – The Woodlands is a great place to live as it is home to over 100,000 people has has many things to offer. From plenty of green space to nature to even the bustling shopping centers, this place has it all. Now the cost of living may be a bit high, but because of the good schools and safe neighborhoods, it is definitely worth it.
Sugar Land – Sugar Land is a popular place for many families to move to as it has good schools, safe neighborhoods and a community filled with all sorts of kindness. It also has a bunch of shopping areas and events that are commonly held here making it a popular spot to entertain yourselves.
Katy – A once quiet area has since been transformed into the newest up and coming spot. It is getting more and more popular each and every year as it offers low prices and neighborhoods that are extremely safe. Plus the schools are great and they have a strong sports team as well.
Cypress – Another up and coming area is Cypress as it offers some of the highest ranked school districts in the entire state of Texas. Prices here are competitive with other good locations but it is totally worth it.
Bay Area -Although this area might be a bit far from the center of Houston, it is one that is experience a lot of regrowth. This area has beautiful views and a low cost of living. However you do have to watch out for the weather as this place does get hit with hurricanes quite often.
Houston Neighborhoods To Stay Away From
Houston might have all sorts of neighborhoods stretching out all across the city.
However not all of them are made the same.
In fact, 2 of Houston’s neighborhood ranked in the top 25 most dangerous neighborhoods in the entire United States. This was found from a research done by NeighborhoodScout.
The website analyzed FBI data from 17,000 local law enforcement agencies to find specific neighborhoods in America with the highest predicted rates of crime,
One of the neighborhoods which comes in at rank 15 in the most dangerous neighborhoods in the United States is “Third Ward”. This neighborhood is centered at the intersection of Dowling and McGowen Streets,
According to the study, the violent crime rate (per 1,000) is reported as 75.89, and residents there have a 1 in 13 chance of becoming a victim of crime in one year.
The other most dangerous neighborhood which comes in at rank 6 is “Sunnyside”, which is located off Texas 288 south of downtown Houston.
According to the study, the violent crime rate (per 1,000) is reported as 91.27, and residents have a 1 in 11 chance of becoming a victim of crime in one year.
So if you are going to be moving to Houston, I would highly suggest staying away from these two areas.
As you can see, Houston is filled with all sorts of amazing neighborhoods. Many of which are incredibly nice to live at.
