Best Restaurants In Taipei, Taiwan
Here in this list, we’ll be discussing our recommendations on some of the best restaurants in Taipei, Taiwan.
You’ll find things like breakfast foods, lunch foods, Taiwanese specialties, desserts, and many more different variety of foods.
Most of the restaurants we list here are some of the most popular restaurants named by Taiwanese locals, so I trust their judgement.
This list isn’t in any particular order, but it does consists of the best restaurants you need to try!
Lan Jia Gua Bao 藍家割包
If you never had a gua bao before, you are totally missing out. You know how Americans have hamburgers, well in Asia we have gua bao! It is basically a bao bun that they open and stuff full of ingredients.
The gua bao you can find here is so amazingly delicious. The most popular one is where it is stuffed with pork belly. But they also do have a lean version as well, or you can even get it in half and half which I think is the best option. The bun is also filled with some vegetables and garnished with some peanuts and other toppings. Overall, it is something you must try when you visit Taipei.
Gua bao might be the specialty here at this store, but if you get the chance I would also suggest you try out their soup which is equally as amazing!
Definitely on my list of being one of the best restaurants in Taipei.

Mama Lau Rice Ball 劉媽媽飯糰
Mama Lau Rice Ball is a very popular place for breakfast takeaway. Many locals come waiting in the morning for the shop to open just to get their hands on one of these delicious foods.
I know its called a rice ball, however to me it just looks like a rice burrito. Which is still really good in its own way. There are a lot of choices for you to select from, but most of them usually consists of pork floss. Whatever choice you decide to pick, they’ll make it and wrap it up neatly for you to take away. Which is why many people love to come here as you can simply just order and go.
Address: No.88, Section 2, Hangzhou South Road
Xiao Lizi Rice Porridge 小李子清粥小菜餐廳
This is a popular place among many locals especially during the night time as they serve some very tasty rice porridge in a buffet style setting. You’ll also get some sides as well like vegetables, tofu, etc…however you mainly want to come here for their sweet potato rice porridge which is probably the best in the country.
Depending on where you come however, the staff may or may not be the friendliest of the bunch. However the food is definitely worth it to comme and try.

Hot Star Large Fried Chicken 豪大大雞排
If you never had Taiwanese large fried chicken, oh man are you in for a treat.
This Taiwanese specialty is basically a fried chicken that is smashed flat and made into a size most likely bigger than your face. It is also seasoned with a variety of spices that make each and every bite so delicious.
The lines are exceptionally long here so you will have to wait but in my opinion I think it is totally worth it. Plus it is insanely cheap for the quality and size of the chicken that you get.
Once you try this chicken, you will never go back to eating the regular fried chicken from KFC or anything of that sort. Definitely on my recommendation of being one of the best restaurants in Taipei.
Address: No. 36 Hanzhong street Wanhua District, Taipei City, Taiwan 108
Fu Hang Dou Jiang 阜杭豆漿
Fu Hang is one of the most popular places to get some Taiwanese Breakfast. Everyday you’ll see long lines here as early as 8 a.m all waiting to eat some delicious foods.
Here this shop specializes in soy milk, you tiao, and shao bing. If you don’t know what these are, it is basically a traditional Taiwanese breakfast. Yao Tiao is basically like a Chinese fried donut/flatbread that is crispy on the outside while being super soft on the inside. Shao Bing is basically like an Asian pancake.
Locals love eating this as the flavors are so good and it is all incredibly cheap.
Considered to be one of the best restaurants in Taipei.

Ay-Chung Flour-Rice Noodle 阿宗麵線
Ay-Chung is a staple among many locals in Taiwan. This shop constantly has long lines because of the food it serves, and they only serve one food. They specialize in serving a rice noodle dish that consists of rice noodles and pork intestines.
Now at first glance, you might think that the dish is just plain and there isn’t anything to it, but once you taste it, I guarantee you will change your mind. The flavors are strong and not overpowering, and the pork intestines are insanely soft and tender. Plus if that isn’t already enough flavor for you, you are more than welcome to add in extra chili oil, garlic or black vinegar to satisfy your hunger.
Address: No. 8-1, Emei Street, Wanhua District, Taipei City, Taiwan 108
Beef Noodles 桃源街(无招牌) 牛肉面
To be honest, I don’t really know if this shop has a name or not. But the locals call it 桃源街(无招牌) 牛肉面.
Many people consider it to be one of the best restaurants in Taipei serving up delicious beef noodle soup.
And for those of you that don’t know, Beef Noodles is one of the proud dishes that Taiwan prides itself in. It is a beloved comfort food that many local Taiwanese people love.
And this store does it justice. It serves up some of the best tasting beef noodle soup you’ll ever get your hands on. You can have your beef noodle soup with clear broth or braised broth. In my opinion I think the braised is better but both are equally as good. The beef is also so juicy and tender, noodles soft and a bit chewy, broth is so beefalicious, you will instantly fall in love with this place.
Address: No.15 Taoyuan Street, Zhongzheng District, Taipei 100, Taiwan
Niu Dian 牛店
Located near the Ximending area is a highly rated beef noodle shop called Niu Dian (牛店). Like the other beef noodle shop on this list, they also serve up some really high quality beef noodles.
There is usually always a line here when you come but the good thing about this shop is that they will give you a number. This way you can roam around nearby without having to wait in line and come back when your number is called.
And just like the other beef noodle shop, this place also has a choice of broth. But the kicker here is that you can also choose what part of the cow meat you want as well. Add in some bone marrow chili paste that is on the side and you’ll have yourself a party.
Address: No. 91, Kūnmíng St, Wanhua District Taipei City, Taiwan 108
Lin Dong Fang Beef Noodles 林東芳牛肉麵
3 Beef noodle shops in this list? Yup you know it! Taiwan is famous for its beef noodle dishes so obviously I will be listing a few.
This shop in particular has a long history of serving delicious beef noodle soups in which you will love. Not only that but you get to pick which type of beef soup you want as well as pick out some amazing side dishes to have which range from pickled vegetables, cucumbers and even pig ears.
The only downside to this shop is that it is pretty small so you might be bumping into quite a few people.
Address: No. 274, BaDe Road, Section 2, DaAn District, Taipei City
Orange Shabu Shabu 橘色刷刷锅
As you may know, all Asians love hot pot. It is the quintessential dish where you can spend quality time with your friends and family talking about things while also eating something delicious.
Orange Shabu Shabu in particular is probably one of the highest rated hot pot spots in Taipei according to many locals. In fact, it is so popular that you actually have to make reservations to dine here as they are almost always full.
Orange Shabu Shabu is especially known for its fresh seafood that guests will experience “sea-to-table” dining. Hokkaido crab, Japanese abalone, Hokkaido scallops, and Jumbo Shrimps are just some of the items you can see here on the menu. And if seafood isn’t your style, you’ll be happy to know that they have all kinds of beef including the coveted wagyu beef.
It is a fantastic spot you definitely need to try.

Liu Mama Cold Noodle 劉媽媽涼麵
Noodle dishes are a staple here in Taiwan with having so many different varieties for you to choose from. And one place that makes some delicious noodles is definitely Liu Mama Cold Noodle shop. Here they specialize in serving cold noodles ( noodles that are cold) that is doused in sesame sauce and has diced cucumbers on the side.
The flavors pair up really well as you get that nutty taste with the crisp cucumbers and chewy noodles. Plus you can top it off with an egg as well as some soup to make the dish into a fully complete meal.
It is a popular spot among the locals especially the taxi drivers as they are always here eating some delicious food.

Another thing that Taiwan is known for besides the beef noodle dishes are the soft and delicious dumplings. They are a staple among Taiwanese cuisines.
And according to the locals, here at Dragon Inn, you can find some of the best tasting dumplings you’ll ever have. The dumplings are filled with that incredibly juicy meat, mixed in with some scallions that is boiled to perfection. Plus they don’t skimp out on the portions either as the dumplings are always filled to the brim. Pair the dumplings up with some soy sauce and you’ll feel like you went to heaven.
Aside from the dumplings, they also serve other food items as well like braised seaweed, tofu and a variety of meats. But if you come here, you definitely need to get the dumplings.
Definitely one of the best restaurants in Taipei for dumplings.

Kao Chi 高記
Another highly reviewed dumpling spot is one called Kao Chi. Many people consider it similar to Din Tai Fung which we’ll be talking about in a little bit. Here you can find all sorts of dumplings from regular boiled dumplings, to steamed dumplings to soup dumplings and much more.
The dumplings here are all generously portioned and have tons of juicy goodness in them. Their pan fried buns are probably my favorite however.
Definitely give this place a try.
Address: No. 1 Yongkang Street, Taipei City, Taiwan
Ding Tai Fung 鼎泰豐
I am pretty sure almost everybody has heard of the famous Din Tai Fung by now. If not, you are in for a treat. They are a famous dumpling branch that started in Taiwan and now has locations all over the world.
Many people consider their dumplings especially the soup dumplings to be world class in flavor and style. They pride themselves in making these dumplings with the exact same number of folds each and every time.
It is a bit pricey to eat here however but I guarantee you that it is totally worth it. The dumplings are plump and juicy while having tons of flavor in them. You will absolutely love it.
They are widely considered to be one of the best restaurants in Taipei, or at least for dumplings anyways.
Address: Multiple locations all around Taipei. Try the one at Taipei 101 as it is easy to access.
Ichiran Ramen 一蘭拉麵
Ichiran is a famous ramen franchise shop hailing from Japan. It has since branched out and started opening up new shops in other parts of the world with Taipei being one of the locations.
This place is unique in the way that you’ll be eating in small cubby holes. No longer will you need to talk to any staff or workers as you’ll be in your hole eating by yourself. It is a great place for introverts as you just hand off your ticket and start eating.
The ramen itself is spectacular as it is full of flavor and spicy enough where you can just feel the heat. Plus it is pretty affordable so it won’t break the bank when you come try it out.
If you are ever in the mood for ramen, this is definitely the place to visit. After all it is one of the best restaurants in Taipei if you are looking for ramen.
Address: No. 97, Songren Road, Xinyi District, Taipei City, Taiwan 110
Jin Feng 金峰魯肉飯
Another lovely comfort dish that is beloved by Taiwanese locals all around is something called Lu Rou Fan. Basically it is a rice bowl dish consisting of minced pork belly that’s been stir-fried and slow cooked in soy sauce until tender, then served over a bowl of steamed rice, usually with a hard-boiled egg on the side.
Every single bite you take is going to be super delicious and bursting with flavor. It is one of my most favorite things to eat whenever I am in Taiwan.
There is a line here just like every other popular restaurant in Taipei, but you don’t have to worry. The line moves very fast so you won’t have to be waiting for a long time.
Address: No. 10-1, Sec. 1, Roosevelt Rd., Zhongzheng Dist, Taipei 100, Taiwan
My Stove My 灶
Another lu rou fan spot is at My Stove. Here they specialize in lu ruo fan which is basically fatty pork served over steaming hot rice. They do serve other things like deep fried squid balls and mapo tofu and more but the star is definitely the lu rou fan.
Address: No. 9-1, Lane 100, Songjiang Road, Zhongshan District, Taipei City, Taiwan 10491
Shao Shao Ke 勺勺客
In all honesty, I had no idea this place existed until my cousin wanted to try something new. She took me to this place and I was entirely confused. I never heard of Shanxi food before so I didn’t know what I was getting myself into.
However once I stepped inside, I was blown away. For instance, in the picture above we have skewers with lamb meat on them and some seasoning. They were oh so delicious and tender and full of flavor. We just had to order more.
They also serve other items like noodles and pastries but I didn’t get a chance to try those. However the skewers were more than enough to keep me ful land happy.
If you get a chance, I would definitely say come visit this location and give Shanxi food a try.

If you ever visit Taipei, this is one fish market you definitely have to visit. Now we all know that Tokyo has the famous Tsukiji Fish Market, but this establishment is Taipei’s answer to that.
It’s actually considered to be one of the best restaurants in Taipei when it comes to sushi.
Inside is basically a seafood wonderland. There are tons of tanks with live seafood in it as well as a store that sells all kinds of seafood and meats you can imagine that are ready to eat. Plus, inside the store you can find a whole bunch of restaurants selling the freshest seafood’s possible.
There is always a bunch of people here so do expect a crowd. You might have to wiggle your way through the areas to get to where you want. Also, they don’t really have tables for you to sit at unless you are dining at one of the restaurants. So if you get one of the to go meals, you’re going to have to stand and eat.

Yongfu Ice Cream Shop is one of the most popular ice cream shops in the entire city of Taipei. They have been serving out hand churned ice cream using local Taiwanese ingredients like taro, longan, peanut, and red bean for over 70 years.
If you never had Taiwanese Ice Cream before, then you’ll definitely be surprised. It is pretty different compared to the ice creams you had back in your country. This place is so good that they were even listed on Michelin Gourmet Bib Guide.
Address: No. 31, Alley 50, Lane 39, Tonghua Street, Da’an District, Taipei City, Taiwan 106
7/11? Why would I write a convenience store as a place to go eat at?
The reason I did this is because convenience stores in Asia are entirely different than those found in western countries. Here they sell all kinds of amazing foods to eat and drink.
You can find ramen, sushi, hot dogs, pizza, rice bowls, pasta, and anything else you can ever imagine. They have it all. Plus everything is insanely cheap and budget friendly so you won’t have to be worried about spending too much money.
Plus they also sell supplies and many other items you might need during your travels.
Address: All Over Taipei
Just like 7/11, Family Mart is another convenience store commonly found in Taiwan. They sell basically the same things as 7/11 with some differences.
But the overall experience is the same.
If you ever get a chance to visit Taiwan, you should definitely go visit a Taiwanese convenience store.
Address: All Over Taipei
As you can see from this list, there are a whole bunch of restaurants for you to try.
