What are some common excuses that are preventing you from traveling?
After all, traveling is something so fun and amazing that almost everyone should try doing it at least once in your life.
However sometimes people don’t get that chance to travel at all.
Mainly because of things holding them back from actually traveling.
It can be things like:
- no time to travel
- no money to travel
- too much work
- friends/family want to hang out
And the list can go on and on.
One thing many people failed to realize is that all of these things are just excuses and reasons for them not being able to travel.
You have no idea just how many times I have heard these same excuses being said time after time.
Now I know it’s true that most people are comfortable where they are at in their lives at the moment and they don’t want anything to change.
They fear that if they step outside of their comfort zone, then suddenly their life will be drastically different.
However it’s this fear that is holding people back.
When you finally step out of your comfort zone, you will realize that there is so much more to do in life.
In this post I will highlight some of the most common excuses that people use to not be able to travel and also how to resolve it.
No Time Off Work
Time is probably one of the most common excuses that people have for not being able to travel. However it is kind of hard to imagine that you have so much time to do every other thing except to travel. Plus there are 52 weeks in a year. Is taking a 1 week or 2 week break really that hard to do?
If work is the problem, maybe try asking for unpaid time off or even work remotely. Or if you don’t like your job how about quitting it completely and then go travel. You can use this time off to think about how your life is doing so far and how you should go about it in the future. You can always come back and find another job. There are so many different possibilities you can do to make time for yourself. It’s you who is holding yourself back from doing so.
It Is Expensive To Travel
Another common excuse is that traveling can be too expensive.
Now this might be true for certain areas. However there are also areas where you can travel to for dirt cheap. It is a common misconception that traveling anywhere around the world is going to be expensive. It mainly depends on where you are going to go. If you were traveling to Italy or Greece then I can probably see why it’s expensive. But if you were to travel to Taiwan, Thailand Mexico, or any other cheap nations, the cost of travel there is really cheap.
If cost really is an issue for you, then you need to think different. You want to be able to find ways to save money. Lucky for you the internet is filled with all sorts of budget traveling tips and guides on where to go. Look for amazing deals to save some money as well as traveling during the off season. You can even use your credit card points to score free flight tickets as well.
There are so many things you can do. Just create a budget plan and figure out everything you are going to need and do and figure out how to start saving money.
No Friends To Go With
You don’t have to always have friends or family go with you on your travels. In fact there are a bunch of people all around the world who travel alone. Now I know it can definitely be tough and also scary to do so but you have nothing to worry about. By traveling alone, you have complete freedom on doing whatever you want whenever you want. It’s a feeling of absolute independence that you will learn to cherish for the rest of your life. Not only that but you’ll learn so many amazing life skills by traveling alone.
Plus, you are never really traveling alone. Wherever you choose to go, you are most likely to make some friends. Either with the locals around town or even other solo travelers. It’s a fun bonding experience that everyone should definitely try out.
It’s Not Safe
Safety is one of those things that’s always on peoples mind. Especially if it’s in an area that they never been in. But they have nothing to worry about.
Solo traveling is very safe in this day and age. Now it’s true that many decades ago it wasn’t really as safe but in today’s culture we have access to all sorts of information. We got the internet that tells us all the safe and bad areas, the types of scams that are going on. Also you have your phone which has gps, texting, internet, etc… basically everything you ever need.
Now although there are still some risks regardless of wherever destination you go to, almost everything can be avoided with some common sense. Just try to know and understand your surroundings and always act accordingly.
I’m Scared Of Traveling
This was probably my biggest reason for not traveling in my early years. I always had doubts in my head and was scared of the unknown. What if I get robbed? What if I get lost? Will I starve? There were so many different questions going around my head. And I get it. These are common thoughts that many people will have. However sometimes you just have to break out of your shell and go for it.
It’s because of this that it shaped me to be the person I am today. I made so many different and amazing friends through traveling and I have learned and experienced many types of cultures.
Sure there are chances of you getting lost, robbed, starve, etc. But you will also have these same chances back at home. You need to find ways to overcome your fears and don’t let them hinder you from doing the things you want to do. Once you can do that, you’ll be able to do anything.
It’s Hard To Travel With Kids
Another reason that I usually hear is that traveling with a kid can be difficult.
Now that usually depends on how you are accustomed to travel.
If you are still traveling the same way as you were before you had a kid than you might have some problems. No longer can you do what you want or see what you want. You have to travel with a kid in mind.
That means no more staying out late, going to the club, or doing anything too outrageous. You have to act like a family/parent.
Just because you have a kid, doesn’t mean you shouldn’t travel anymore. It also doesn’t mean that you can’t do everything you wanted to do. It just means that you have to plan around your kid so that all of you can have an amazing time.
After all, there are tons of families who travel with their kids. It all depends on how you plan things.
I’m Scared Of Flying
Did you know that there are other forms of transportation? Traveling isn’t all about flying on a plane. You can do things like a road trip or go on a cruise. Some might even do a train ride across country. It’s perfectly fine to be afraid of flying. There are many people who are afraid as well. That doesn’t mean you have to stop traveling. Instead just find other forms of transportation. Or if you really have to fly, then take some sleeping pills or drink a lot of alcohol on the flight to calm down and go sleep. No need to be stressed out or scared.
Putting Things Off Till Later
This is an excuse that many people will have. Always saying that they’ll travel later. It could be in a few weeks, or months, or even a year. But guess what? When the time comes, they put it off again. There is no reason to do this. The best time to travel is now! And the longer you keep putting it off, the more you will regret it later on in life.
Nobody knows what the future might hold. Certain attractions might close down, you might get sick and can’t travel no more, or other things. The point is, by putting things off till the future, you are denying yourself the experiences and joys that the current world has to offer. So don’t get into the habit of putting things off. Because I guarantee you that once you do, you will continue to put it off and never get it done. And guess what? Before you know it, you are an old person and stuck regretting all the missed experiences that you could have done when you were younger.
I can’t Speak The Language
Different countries have different languages. Doesn’t mean you have to learn those languages to be able to travel there. And it won’t be the end of the world. Mainly because we live in an age where technology is so advanced now that we don’t need to learn any languages to travel. We have things like Google Translate which can help us translate our words to each other so that other people will know what we are talking about.
When I traveled to Japan, I knew no Japanese. However I was able to travel all around because of my Google Translate. It helped me translate places I want to go to, what to eat, what to see, it helped with everything I could have ever imagined.
So you don’t have to worry if you don’t know the countries language. As long as you have other ways of translating things, then you will be totally fine.
Too Old Or Too Young To Travel
You are never too old or too young to travel around the world. Well…actually maybe if you are a baby then you are too young. But for the rest of us, age is just a number. It has nothing to do with how we want to travel or where we want to travel. In fact, there are people of all ages constantly traveling all around the world every year. Age doesn’t stop them from doing so.
As long as you have made up your mind and want to travel, then of course go and do it. Now it is true that there might be certain restrictions or stuff that hinders one from doing something. For instance, older people might prefer places where relaxation is the key like a peaceful retreat or a beach. Where as younger people might prefer destinations that are more adventurous and involves a lot of hiking or backpacking around. All of which is pretty fun.
Overall, traveling doesn’t need to be scary or hard. In fact, traveling can be very beneficial to everybody. You will get a chance to learn a lot from different cultures, find out things you never knew you liked, as well as learning how to be independent. It is definitely a life changing experience. All of this is possible because of traveling. And as long as you stop making excuses to not travel, you will be able to experience it for yourself.
So instead of making excuses, just go and do it. You don’t want to grow up old and have regrets of never having fun when you were young. Use your time wisely and live life to the fullest.
Common excuses are a common thing to happen that can prevent you from traveling.
However its what we do with those excuses that can change how we live our daily lives.
